Melissa Thomas hails from Maryland, where she earned her B.A. in Music with an emphasis in Piano Performance from University of Maryland Baltimore County. In addition to piano, Melissa is also proficient in violin, Celtic lever harp, and pipe organ. One of Melissa's greatest passions in music is collaborating with other musicians and uncovering the rich historical, cultural, and theoretical aspects behind a work. In this exploration, the music comes alive and takes on greater meaning than just notes on a page; it is a way to express the nature of being human.

Specializing in classical piano, Melissa has frequently accompanied such groups and performers as Anat Kardontchik, UMBC’s Camerata, The Westminster Ringers, competitors in the Maryland and Solo and Ensemble competition, and Accelerando. She has an extensive background in providing music for churches of various liturgical traditions, and seeks to always use her music to the glory of God. In 2016, she had the great pleasure of giving premieres and repeat performances of both sacred and secular works by composers Zachariah Thomas and Joshua Sharo in MD, PA, FL, and NY.

Over her past 8+ years of teaching instrumental lessons and privately tutoring music theory, Melissa has tailored to each of her students’ needs and has striven to imbue them with their own love of music by making the learning process exciting and rewarding. She offers private instruction in piano, violin, and Celtic harp, as well as group and Musikgarten® classes. Currently, Melissa is residing in Tallahassee, FL with her husband and daughter. She is available for hire as a private instructor, solo or collaborative performer, or for musical presentations/workshops.
